Help Hana Beat Cancer & See Her Son Graduate

Don protégé

I never thought I would have to write a post like this for anyone, let alone my sweet sister Hana, a true light in this world. She’s an incredible sister, friend and mother to her 17-year-old son Miles, and has touched so many lives with her kindness and generosity.

But Hana is currently in a fierce battle against Stage 4 Cervical Cancer, fighting for her life. We created this fundraiser so that Hana can get the support she needs to win that fight. Her greatest dream is to see her son Miles graduate from high school next Spring, but if her disease continues to worsen, she may not be here to do so. This absolutely breaks my heart, but we know that Hana is a fighter, and we want to give her every opportunity to get well again.

Due to the late stage and aggressive nature of the cancer, Hana no longer has the option to pursue treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy. She did undergo a clinical trial, but the results have not been promising. Right now Hana’s best option for survival is trying alternative treatments.

Insurance will not cover the cost of these treatments. (And of course these protocols are expensive.) But we don’t want Hana to have to worry about anything but her healing and getting better. Every donation we receive will help Hana (and we pray for this) kick this disease to the curb and enter remission.

Medical History
Hana has always been healthy and positive. She had never had a medical issue in her life before the start of her cancer journey. But in 2021 at the age of only 38, she was diagnosed with what she was told was Stage 1 Cervical Cancer by her gynecologist. She was scared but grateful it was caught early. She was referred to an oncologist and they decided on a plan. Hana did 25 rounds of radiation and five rounds of chemotherapy. Happily, in December of 2021, she was told that the cancer was gone. She celebrated with friends and family when she heard the word “remission,” excited to move on with her life. However, the joy was short lived, as Hana began to experience pelvic pain in early 2022. She felt that something was wrong, but had to fight to get her insurance company to approve a CT scan.

Hana finally had a CT scan in April 2022 and the results were devastating –Hana’s cancer had not been eradicated. In fact, a cancer site had been missed in the original scan and had continued to grow. A biopsy of a lymph node in her pelvis confirmed that her cancer was now Stage 4 and was spreading.

Angry at the medical system that let her down, Hana switched oncologists soon after she got the news. Despite her new doctor being wonderful and committed to strategizing towards a solution, there were very few options left. Because Hana had undergone radiation in her pelvis previously, she was not eligible for radiation. (Of course, the saddest part of this is that had the scan been read correctly the first time, they could have radiated the cancer in its entirety and perhaps been able to avoid all this.)

Hana enrolled in a clinical trial to try and halt the disease. But while she was initially optimistic, the trial did little to reverse the cancer’s progress. Hana is currently in a lot of pain in her back, pelvis and her legs. As time goes on and the disease progresses, she is in more and more pain. She has also lost a considerable amount of weight and is tired most of the time. Through all of this she has continued working, and tried to be a present mother for her son. There is no time to waste. Now is the time for Hana to try new options in order to get well again.

Next Steps
After much research, we found a treatment center that we believe in, Sunridge Medical center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Sunridge has a proven track record in alternative therapies for cancer treatment. They are ready to assist Hana based on her prognosis, and she wishes to begin treatment ASAP.

People have been reaching out asking how to help Hana get through this trying time. We kindly ask you to show your love and support in one of these ways:

Prayers & Positive Thoughts - Please send your prayers and positive thoughts to Hana on her path to healing, with an emphasis on visualizing her full recovery to good health. Hana is a spiritual person and wholeheartedly believes in the power of prayer and positive energy.

Recommendations - If you have any advice or recommendations for treatment options or steps you/ loved ones took on the path to remission, we’d love to know about them. This is a scary time for Hana, and she is open to trying multiple approaches on her journey towards being cured.

Financial contributions to this GoFundMe fundraiser - Funds raised will help to cover Hana’s treatment at Sunridge Medical as well as her travel expenses and day-to-day living expenses (healthy meals, transportation and insurance copays, utility bills etc). Any amount raised will be used to directly enhance Hana’s health and quality of life.

Thank you for all of your love and support during this time. With your help, we’re confident that Hana will be able to get better and be able to watch her son cross that graduation stage!
We will keep you updated as things progress on Hana’s health journey.

Blessings,
Calvin
