Stage 5 ESRD Medical Expenses for Brenda

To our friends and family,

For those who don’t already know, Brenda was diagnosed with Stage 5 Acute Kidney Failure and Lupus nephritis which ultimately means her kidneys are failing and will require a new kidney.

On March 25 she started to notice swelling on her feet and legs. Not thinking much of it hoping it would go away on its own, they stayed swollen all weekend and the week following until March 30th when she went to the immediate care where they told her she had high blood pressure reading over 200 and a possible heart murmur. She was told to go immediately to the emergency room where she was admitted at MacNeal Hospital. After countless test and kidney biopsy, Brenda was Diagnosed with Acute Kidney Failure due to Lupus nephritis which lead to Stage 5 End Stage Renal Failure (ESRD). She has already started dialysis since her kidneys are close to failing and will need a kidney transplant.

On May 2nd she was finally able to go home after being at the hospital for a little over a month. She will need dialysis at home and that alone is going to be another financial burden along with medical bills to come. With that being said, with this unexpected major life change she will be enduring and getting used too, medical bills should be one of the last things she has to stress about. It took convincing for her to agree to starting this fundraiser because of how good her heart is. She rather be the one giving to others out of kindness because that’s who she is as a person.

If you know Brenda at all, you know she is the sweetest and kindest soul you will ever meet always walking around with the biggest smile. That smile and spirit still showed throughout her hospital visit and now as she gets used to her new life. Although life for her will be different, she can’t wait to get back to work teaching her children and back in the gym getting that work in!

At the moment this is the amount that the hospital has sent to her. It’s currently pending so it could still be more or it could be less. Still waiting to see if her insurance will be able to do more for her.
