I am fundraising for a UK charity, Friends of Rwandan Rugby. A team of rugby coaches and players (myself included) will join for their annual Rugby Foundations Tour 2025 out in Rwanda to teach rugby to the local primary and secondary school children.
The charity collaborates with the Rwandan Rugby Development Officers (RDOs) to develop the sport from grassroots upward, alongside the Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) in creating a sustainable model for the growth of the sport and rugby development of the future. There are huge benefits for participation within rugby, encouraging a healthy, active life-style as well as promoting the rugby ethos of fair play, respect, friendship and fun.
WHY RUGBY? WHY RWANDA?
It is increasingly accepted that sport can play a big role in healing the personal and societal wounds left by social conflict and upheaval. The nature and culture of rugby mean that it is a powerful sport for building trust and friendship through shared experience and we believe that rugby can be used as a social-fabric building tool, especially in a country such as Rwanda which has been successfully rebuilding the unity destroyed by the events of the early 90’s.
Please donate and share.
