5km @ 5am for Irish Cancer Society
Hey everyone, my name is Luke Pierce, and this is my fundraiser page to help those suffering from cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer. All money raised will go to The Irish Cancer Society. I will be running 5km @ 5am for 30 days in November, anyone is welcome to join!
In June 2023, I will begin the trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with my father, Conor. A few years ago, Conor and his father, Patrick, attempted to climb this mountain but unfortunately had to call it quits halfway through as Pat reached dangerously low levels of oxygen and had to return to the base.
Earlier this year, In March 2022, Grandad passed away after an awful 8 months of suffering from pancreatic cancer. This came as a complete shock for all the family and his friends as he was extremely fit, regularly climbing mountains and leading teams on treks. Even in his 80s, nothing would stop him. We want to fulfill the only hike that he wasn't able to finish; although he wanted to, he didn't have a choice.
On the 9th of June, Conor and I will fly to Tanzania and begin the 12 day hike up the highest mountain in Africa, another effort to raise money for The Irish Cancer Society. For now, I will run 5 kilometers at 5 am every day for 30 days. I understand the difficulty of this challenge, but I am determined to do it for Grandad and everyone else who is or has a loved one suffering from this disease. Everyone is welcome to join me any day at 5 am, and we can go at any pace. It would be so greatly appreciated if you could leave any amount of money and share this page around as much as possible!
I also chose to do this activity in the winter months as it may help promote exercise and getting outside during these dark, cold months. It is vital for people who suffer from mental health issues but especially for those with any level of seasonal depression, where the lack of sun can have a significant impact on our mental well-being. This is why everyone is welcome to join me!
