Hi, my name is Laurie Hancock, and I'm fundraising for my 10-year-old grandson Chase Hancock and his family, Keith, Carly, and Joel Hancock. Chase was diagnosed with non-verbal Autism when he was a year old, and at age five, he was diagnosed with Epilepsy. On his worst days, Chase can have upwards of 80-100
seizures, and even with medications, Keith and Carly frequently have to seek emergency medical care for Chase's uncontrolled seizure clusters. After trying numerous medications and alternative therapies, Keith and Carly were told that his Epilepsy would likely never be fully controlled with medication. Surgery would be the only option for long-term or permanent healing.
In March 2020, doctors began a series of tests and scans to determine Chase's eligibility for brain surgery. After two years of testing, Chase was recommended for surgery, which has been scheduled for June 6. Chase will have two operations. Electrodes will be placed on his brain during the first operation to collect data and determine the precise location where Chase's seizures originate. Once doctors have the information they need from this procedure, they will operate again to remove the problematic portion of his brain. This process is likely to take 2-3 weeks in the hospital. Keith and Carly will be staying in the hospital with Chase while Joel stays with family.
This fundraiser will help offset Chase's medical and associated costs and provide meals and living expenses for Keith and Carly while in the hospital.
