Medical school tuition fees

I have gained a place at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

My original funding plan for tuition for medical school has sadly fallen through and so I am now trying to work out a way to still be able to go in September as it seems ridiculous to me that money for tuition should be the factor that stops me from becoming a doctor.

I am not eligible for student finance for tuition as I have a previous degree (1st class degree in Human Biology, graduated 2022 when my daughter was 3). I have looked at various different grants/options but they are all of smaller amounts which is fantastic to help with living costs etc but doesn't really help with the 9535 per year for 4 years. The NHS covers tuition for the 5th year.

Brighton have confirmed they don't offer any scholarships for Medicine to assist with tuition fees.

I am a single Mum and have worked SO hard to get to the point I'm at now to be able to start medical school, I have managed to sort a plan with the uni around placements etc and various day to day practical plans to make it all work so it is incredibly frustrating that the last hurdle of tuition currently seems insurmountable.

There was briefly the option for Medicine as an apprenticeship, but this has also now been pulled sadly.

I have a particular interest in Women's Health along with community healthcare and am keen to pursue these areas within my career.

I am incredibly proud of what I have already achieved so far in my life but I know medicine is what I want to do now. I have worked in the NHS for the last 5 years and feel the combination of my experince, commitment, determination and empathy will help me to succeed in medical school and in my career as a Doctor.

I am therefore asking if you can please share this fundraiser and donate any small amount you are able to so I can find a way to still continue with my plans!

Just to be clear, I am not asking for any money for me personally. This is purely for tuition and will be paid directly to Brighton and Sussex Medical School. I would also more than happily have it as a loan that is repayed once I am qualified. I just want to find a way to proceed.

I am incredibly grateful for all the support and encouragement and I know there will be a way to achieve this. I am looking forward to a day in the future when I am a qualified doctor and in a position to be able to pay forward the kindness and generosity.

Please also be reassured, if for any reason I am unable to proceed or I raise more than I need due to a new sponsor being found etc then the money will be refunded to doners. It will either be transferred directly to Brighton for tuition or back to you.
