Apoyo para asistencia al festival de cine Sundance

Hola, soy Claudia Lepage, productora de cine venezolana residenciada en Caracas, Venezuela.

Decidí abrir esta campaña de crowdfunding porque tengo una meta muy importante que lograr: asistir a la próxima edición del Festival de cine de Sundance, que se desarrolla en Park City, Estados Unidos, a finales de este mes de enero.

El largometraje documental “Érase una vez en Venezuela, Congo Mirador”, del cual soy productora ejecutiva, forma parte de la competencia oficial de este festival de cine independiente fundado en 1978 por el actor Robert Redford. 

“Érase una vez en Venezuela, Congo Mirador”, es el primer documental venezolano seleccionado en Sundance, en el cual cada año se estrenan cerca de 200 películas de todo el mundo. Una ardua selección entre 9000 películas que se presentan para ser elegidas. 

Este documental dirigido por mi colega Anabel Rodríguez, es una reflexión poética sobre la desintegración del pueblo Congo Mirador, ubicado al sur del lago de Maracaibo, en el que chavistas y opositores deben ponerse de acuerdo para salvarlo de la sedimentación que sufre. Pero el documental va más allá del Zulia, es una metáfora sobre el país mismo.

En años anteriores los cineastas venezolanos contábamos con apoyo del estado para difundir nuestra cinematografía en el exterior. En la actualidad, nos enfrentamos a la censura del gobierno y a la enorme disminución de los recursos que oxigenaban nuestro cine. 

Hacer cine en Venezuela es una proeza. Y porque soy muy terca sigo aquí, vinculada a nuestra cultura y a nuestras historias. Sin embargo, es una realidad el aislamiento que estamos viviendo los cineastas aquí y el hecho de que nuestra cinematografía corre riesgo de desaparecer. 

Es muy importante para mí como profesional asistir a este festival y así poder contar en primera persona la realidad que vivimos en el país. Después de seis años trabajando en esta película, es vital para mí asistir a su estreno mundial en este prestigioso festival y participar en las rondas de preguntas que harán los espectadores.

Hi, I'm Claudia Lepage, a Venezuelan film producer based in Caracas, Venezuela.

I’ve decided to open this crowdfunding campaign because I have a very important goal to achieve: attend the next edition of the Sundance Film Festival, which takes place in Park City, United States, at the end of this month.

The feature film documentary “Once Upon a Time in Venezuela”, of which I am Executive Producer, is part of the official competition of this independent film festival founded in 1978 by actor Robert Redford.

“Once upon a time in Venezuela”, is the first Venezuelan documentary selected in Sundance, in which about 200 films from around the world are released every year. An arduous selection among 9000 films presented to be chosen.

This documentary film, directed by my colleague Anabel Rodríguez, is a poetic reflection on the disintegration of the town Congo Mirador, located at the south of Maracaibo’s Lake, in which chavistas and opponents must agree to save the town from the sedimentation that is suffering. But the documentary goes beyond this territory, it is a metaphor about the country itself.

In previous years, Venezuelan filmmakers had the support of the State to spread our cinematography abroad. At present, we face the censorship of the government and the enormous decrease of the resources that used to oxygenate our cinema.

Making movies in Venezuela is a feat. And because I'm very stubborn I'm still here, linked to our culture and our stories. However, the isolation that filmmakers are experiencing here and the fact that our cinematography is at risk of disappearing is a reality.

It is very important for me as a professional to attend this festival and thus to be able to tell in first person the reality that we live in the country. After six years working on this film, it is vital for me to attend its world premiere at this prestigious festival and participate in the Q&A’s with the viewers.
