Mike Olson’s cancer fight

Mike's story started back in November 2018 when he complained to Tina that he felt like his eye was irritated  and thought he had pink eye or a drop of paint in it. Being Mike has been a professional painter for the last 25 years. So as a typical male, he was hesitant on going in to get it checked out. Once the pain got so severe and he could no longer see out of his right eye, he decided that he needed to seek medical attention. He then went in to Mankato urgent care where they thought he might have Glacoma and along with a detached retina.  Then  they proceeded to send him to an Optometrist (eye doctor), who found a 13.1 mm mass behind his right eye. Then the optometrist referred him to a Ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) who did confirm he would never regain his vision in his right eye. The mass was determined that it was choroidal melanoma( cancer of his eye). Then he was seen by Dr. Meredith Baker at Minnesota Opthalmic Plastic Surgery Specialist on  January 8th where they did a enumeration of his right eye. They removed the iris(colored part as well as the mass). Then he was seen by Dr. Madhu Emani at Minnesota Oncology where he ordered more tests to determine if the cancer has metastasized (spread anywhere). The results had unfortunately determined that the cancer had spread to his left kidney. He now has a 4.1 cm mass on his left kidney. He is currently waiting  for an appointment with Mayo in Rochester to meet with a Urologist to determine if they will perform a nephrectomy (removal of the kidney) or a partial nephrectomy (removal of the mass).
