Loss of a husband and father
Donation protected
My husband Kavion was diagnosed with stage IV Non Hodgkins lymphoma on January 21, 2015. At this time, I was pregnant with our 2nd daughter. We were shocked and scared. The oncologist was sure that Kavion would beat it in 6 months with aggressive chemo. We are now going on 9 months with monthly trips to the hospital where he is kept due to fevers and infection.
In short, the chemo isn't working. His last option is a stem cell replacement. His doctor recommended that we seek treatment at the University of Michigan. During his 9 months in and out of the hospital, Kavion has not been able to work so it has been just me working and taking care of Kavion and the kids. I've missed a lot of days of work, which has created a significant financial strain in additional everything else that is on our shoulders.
Our best hope for Kavion right now is to move to Michigan for treatment. However, getting the family there on one income is impossible. Kavion applied for SSI with the help of a lawyer as soon as he was diagnosed and was denied 8 months later. Even though this is a normal part of the SSI process and we are appealing, We don't have time to wait for him to get approved. Bills are stacking up. His health is fading fast. His oncologist said he needs this stem cell replacement before his white blood cell count is too low. Without the stem cell replacement, his only option would be to live off of chemo until he dies. With chemo is becoming less effective, it's basically a band aid.
It is tearing me apart to watch the love of my life and the father of my children be killed by cancer and to feel powerless to help him. I am working as hard as I can, and calling upon all the resources I have. This treatment could be our last chance and money is standing in the way. I'm writing to ask for your help to get my family to Michigan to begin the treatment to save his life.
