This is not my story to tell but I will do my best to share it honestly and accurately. My junior year Mr. Rice was the person who helped me to gain the self confidence and rid me of the intense guilt I had when it came to seeking help for my anxiety and depression. Just as Mr. Rice empowered me to get the help I needed I want to do the same for him and his family. Mr. Rice has been battling prostate cancer for multiple years now. He was in remission and off his medication for some time but recently the cancer came back and he has been required to restart his medication. In addition to this at the end of last year Mrs. Rice was diagnosed with breast cancer. She received a double mastectomy and is also in need of various chemo treatments. The most recent developments to their story is Mrs. Rice’s emergency appendectomy. It is still unknown whether the issue with the appendix has any relation to the cancer or not. The charge for the MRI before this procedure alone will cost the Rice family $3,000. That isn’t even taking into account the fact that Mrs. Rice needed to stay in the hospital for seven days after the surgery to fight off the infection before she could resume her chemo. My goal is to help cover as many medical bills possible starting with the money for Mrs. Rice’s MRI. (We have already surpassed this goal!! 5/17/18) Mr. Rice has impacted the students of ACA in insurmountable ways and this is our chance to give a little of what he has given to us back.Organizer and beneficiary
