Paul Hutchinson is one of ours. A valued member of Dunbar Fire Station, a teammate, a friend, a brother — someone who has always been there when others needed help. In 2024, just months before welcoming his pride and joy, little PJ, Paul’s world was turned upside down. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After multiple surgeries and months of fighting with everything he had, the news no family should ever hear came — the tumour is terminal. Paul is just 31 years old and has been given two years to spend with the people he loves most.

Since being off duty, Paul has been a huge loss to our crew. The station isn’t the same without him. But while Paul can no longer run into burning buildings, he’s now facing the hardest fight of his life — trying to make memories with his partner and his kids, knowing time is heartbreakingly limited. No one should have to carry that weight.

This February, we are doing 5km every single day to raise money for Paul and the SFRS Family Support Trust, who have stood by Paul and his family through the darkest of days.
