Malia had a spinal stroke on April 17, 2018. We don’t know what caused it or how it happened. She went from leading a very active lifestyle to not being able to move her lower body at all. She spent 2 weeks at the hospital followed by 2 weeks at an acute rehab facility specializing in spinal cord injuries. Her recovery will take up to a year and even then her doctors do not know whether she will walk again. Thankfully her insurance has covered some of her expenses but her large deductible and other uncovered expenses continue to pile up.
