La Tansouna - A Refugee’s Story

Brought to you by Swinburne University of Technology, La Tansouna (Don’t Forget Us) is an Arabic short film following the life of newly arrived refugee Nour, who seeks asylum in Australia. Escaping persecution to live his life freely on safer lands, his story brings to the screen the unseen struggles and dire impacts of indefinite detention. Although fictional, La Tansouna is inspired by the real-life experiences of migrant communities, and aims to advocate for their voices to be centred. 

Led by Syrian director Sarah Ghassali, refugee advocate and podcast host, our team consists of six women from diverse walks of life - each with a unique passion for telling Nour’s story and reclaiming his narrative.

As this project is entirely student led, these funds are vital for Nour’s story to be told, not only through film, but in hopes of sparking a conversation about the inhumane treatment of refugees in Australia, and all around the world.
