The Char And Dave Campaign
Donation protected
As most of you know, our family has been through the wringer over the recent year. So many ups and downs with the head lady who always led us being in and out of the hospital. None of us hurting as much as her Husband, Dave Sommers.
On the afternoon of May 3rd, 2018 Charlene Sommers took her last breaths and joined many loved ones in another world. The mark this woman has left on so many hearts could never be undone. I am writing this with a very heavy and broken heart.
Of all people who loved my grandmother, no one loved her as truly and as deeply as my grandfather David. When I was young I thought the ideal love story was romance, hearts, gifts and it came easily, naturally with the right person. I can say today that I was completely wrong. The love my grandfather had for my grandmother and our family is the ultimate example of what true love is.
My grandfathers hands are stained black from the hundreds of thousands of vehicles he’s repaired. He goes months working without taking off even for a day. After he gets home from work he’s usually doing some cheap labor for a friend of the family or a neighbor in his driveway. The working never stopped for him. If someone in our family needed anything, our papa would make it happen. He is unlike any other person I’ve ever met in my entire life. Everything he does, every hour he devotes each day, is all for his family, for his wife and their pets. They have struggled financially for years since they have made the move to Florida in order to be close to their grandchildren. Most people would give up and move back but not them. Family is absolutely everything to them.
I’m making this campaign for my grandfather because he is completely broken right now. He doesn’t even have the time to relax and grieve because he has to continue to working to keep up with his bills. It killed me to see him each day driving 20 mike trips back and forth all day from home, to work, to the hospital. There hasn’t been one day he’s missed sitting with grandma in that room. My grandfather is also severely in debt with all of the hospital bills that have racked up since my grandmother has gotten sick. He doesn’t complain at all. He just simply says, none of that matters, she is what matters.
Today he is going to the funeral home to make plans for her service. I know that no one in our family is in a position to help him greatly so I’m hoping to get him some help, some relief through this. Maybe that way he will finally take at least a weekend off of work to grieve the loss of his soul mate. I hate that in this type of system we live in you have to carry the burden and cost of burials/cremations when you’re going through so much pain already.
If you are at all in any position to help my grandfather, please do and please share this campaign. Please keep him and the rest of our family in your thoughts and prayers.
She loved more than most could dream of loving.
Charlene Sommers
