Rebuilding the Philippines

As you might have heard, disaster has struck the Philippines. Human capital and financial resources have become scarce, and while emergency aid is being sent, my intentions to help are slightly different. The community needs immediate resources"”but long-term solutions to help them rebuild are even more important.
As the Director of Architecture for Humanity Toronto (AFHTO)"”a local nonprofit organization, we are charged with the task of promoting architecture and design solutions to social and humanitarian crisis on the global scale.
Over the few years, Architecture for Humanity plans to respond to the devastation by helping restore and rebuild communities in the Philippines. Backed by a Toronto-based Filipino architect, the Toronto chapter will be an integral component in this initiative.
To properly respond to the devastation, we need to clearly identify the needs of the people in Tacloban, Philippines. Through doing so, we can propose an architectural project that will help them rebuild their community. This can only happen by being exposed to the devastation first-hand in Tacloban.
I am planning a two-week trip to Cebu and Tacloban on December 15th, 2013 to help with disaster relief, and to meet with local architects, city officials, and other nonprofit organizations that will connect AFHTO to the community.
As a student I cannot afford the cost of the flight on my own. I am asking friends and family to donate and allow me to help the people of Tacloban. Any contribution helps! Thank you!
