Hello,
My name is Brittany McClure. My 6-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, Ruger, was attacked by my neighbors four dogs on Friday, Jan 21st, 2022. He was severely injured and required a more than three hour surgery to stitch up nearly every part of his body. Over ten drains and the worst dog attack his vet had ever seen in his career. While he is now off of his IV fluids, regulating his body temperature, and appears stable, Ruger is nowhere near out of the woods. He requires around-the-clock care from home to ensure he is eating enough, drinking enough, and, most importantly, staying clean. His wounds have begun to open up, and the risk of infection is high due to the severe amount of trauma inflicted on his entire body. He has several broad-spectrum antibiotics to reduce the chance of sepsis and, ultimately, death or organ failure. Ruger is currently prescribed several different pain medications to ease his pain. Ruger has numerous drains that have been placed throughout his body to relieve the fluid build-up and possible pockets for infection to grow. They are flushed multiple times a day. The next few visits will be to have the drains removed, and he likely has to undergo a procedure to remove fluid from the collecting pockets throughout his body. He is going back to the vet Wednesday the 26th in the AM and I will know more on his expected outlook. But what I do is that this will be a long road ahead of us both, mentally, physically, spiritually and financially.
I cannot believe I am creating a go fund me page. But I know how much Ruger means to me. He is worth every penny, and I know there is a will to survive. Anything helps, as I have given everything I can to keep him and get him this far. All I pray and want is to see my bouncy, energetic boy run, and play. This Cinco de mayo birthday boy has so much life in him left. I appreciate the smallest donation to help pay for his vet bills, pads, blankets, topical, meds and more! God bless and thankyou.
