Our holiday season took an unexpected and frightening turn when Millie became very sick. On Sunday, December 28th, Millie began vomiting and became extremely lethargic, which continued throughout the day and into the night. She was taken to the vet first thing Monday morning for evaluation.

After initial testing, the vet admitted Millie for additional bloodwork, X-rays, and IV fluids. Later that afternoon, we received the call that she needed to be transferred to Victoria Pet Hospital as soon as possible for advanced care. Millie has been hospitalized there since the evening of December 29th, undergoing further testing, advanced ultrasound imaging, and continuous IV treatment.

It was determined that emergency surgery was required, and on Tuesday, December 30th, Millie underwent abdominal surgery. Thankfully, the surgery went well, and she has started to perk up—but she is still not completely out of the woods.

Millie continues to require round-the-clock critical care. She is currently experiencing a heart arrhythmia and is on medication to help stabilize it. She also required a plasma transfusion due to slow blood movement. At this time, she remains on a fentanyl drip for pain management and has a feeding tube to ensure she’s receiving proper nourishment.
