Save Lizzie
Meet Lizzie, my little rescue who stole my heart two years ago. Lizzie had a very rough start; the first five years of her life she was kept in a small cage and forced to have puppies without any medical care or even sufficient food to give her fragile body the basic nutrients she needed. Once Lizzie had served her best years in the puppy mill and because of the lack of care was not able to have more puppies she was dumped in a kill shelter in SC. At the time she was estimated to be about five years old. She was malnourished, weak and her spirit was broken. She was terrified of people and the world was a very scary place for her. Lucky for me, I found her through an amazing rescue organization, LCAR, that was willing to pull her from that shelter contingent on funding her rescue and transportation to NY. We funded her rescue in a day and she was heading to NY in less than 2 weeks. It wasn't so easy for Lizzie even after that. She arrived and I picked her up on a cold January morning and made a promise to change her life, to show her there are good humans and that she qas going to be safe from then on. She needed surgery to remove very large bladder stones that were result of years of infections gone untreated after having liter after liter of puppies. It took a good year for lizzie to settle in and begin to trust us. I took her to dog parks so she could play with other dogs and feel freedom and joy as every dog should. I took her everywhere I could with me and my senior dog Max at the time was Lizzie's guide and companion. She slowly became a happy and healthy little girl she should've been her entire life. Until last week... She woke up on Saturday in a frantic manner, unlike her usual self and wanted to go outaide eagerly. As I let her out into the backyard she started to vomit in a scary manner and seemed very weak after. I knew something was very wrong and I rushed her to the vet. After an emergency exam we decides she needed an ultrasound to check for any obstruction to her internal organs. We spend the day back and forth from an emergency facility to the vets office and making an action plan of treatment. Lizzie was diagnosed with pancreatitis and diabetes at the same time. I was beyond heartbroken at the sound of those terms from the doctor. The happy little girl that had survived so much abuse and had made such recovery couldn't now be facing this unpredictable and frightening road again. Lizzie got admitted on Saturday and spent the next three days on medication and fluids to aid with getting passed this terrible condition. The IV fluids and meds seemed to have helped and so Monday night we decided to take her home. For the next three days I took lizzie to the vet everyday for checkups and she seemed to not make progress at expected. By Friday morning she was too lethargic and I needed to do something more aggressive. I took her to a specilized veterinary hospital and had her addmited. She's been ther now for three days with two IV lines and a feeding tube through her nose to supplement when she refuses to eat food. It breaks my heart to see her like this, I can't hold back the tears when I'm visiting her or when I'm away from her. I pray day and night begging for a miracle. She deserves a healthy long life and I want to give her that. The medical bills are pilling up and I can't put a price on her health. If you can find it in your heart to help with her medical bills so I can continue to provide her with the medical needs that is required until she can sustain on her own you will be saving this little girl's life. Seeing her transformation over the last two years has been incredible and I want to see her live a long healthy life. Please share this even if you can't contribute. Lizzie's heartbroken mom, Tarin
