Angela's Titties are being Shitty

As you may have read on today’s facebook post, Angela Moore was diagnosed with breast cancer and is starting chemotherapy tomorrow.

A big part that she left out is that she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, which is aggressive and fast growing.  It’s a cancer that tests negative for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and excess HER2 protein. These results mean that the growth of the cancer is not fueled by the hormones estrogen and progesterone, or by the HER2 protein. So, triple-negative breast cancer does not respond to hormonal therapy medicines or medicines that target HER2 protein receptors. In turn, treatment options are very limited.  After 20 weeks of chemotherapy, she’ll undergo a double mastectomy, possibly followed by radiation or further treatment and eventual reconstructive surgery.

In typical Angela fashion, she is facing all of this with humor and grace.  Humor and grace doesn’t pay the bills though.  Having moved to Texas less than a year ago, Angela has accrued very limited sick leave.  She’s hoping to teach remotely, but like most of the nation, her school district’s plans are currently in flux. Angela loves being a first-grade teacher (Little Flower and Imagination Station in Nevada and now Keller ISD in Texas), but being in a classroom full of germ factories probably isn’t the best idea right now.  No matter what though, we can count on Angela to make the best of it.

Hubby D.J. completed his teacher licensure requirements and will be teaching and coaching at a local high school.  Angela also has her three little munchkins to think about … 5 year old Colin (who’s supposed to be beginning kindergarten), 4 year old Kate and 1 year old Ryan.  Angela is thinking about their care, not only now but in the future as well.  It is never far from her mind that she was only 11 when she lost her own mom due to breast cancer.

Angela has a long year of treatments and surgeries ahead of her however, in her own words, it is going to be a wild ride and when it’s all said and done, she will be forever changed.

For friends and family, it is incredibly hard to watch our sweet, sassy and strong Angela struggle.  We wish we could take it all away but of course we can’t, so instead we hope to help with the mounting medical expenses, food costs, and other bills as she fights her way to being a badass pink sister.  Angela is not one to look for sympathy or ask for help, so this fund is just one way we can maybe relieve a little of the financial burden for Angela and her family.  Prayers and good juju are always appreciated too!
