Help Save Tawanda's life

"After 8 years of fighting strong there is nothing more devastating than walking into a room and being told you have months to live and there is nothing the hospital can do..."

 

This page is for fundraising and support for Tawanda who was diagnosed with a rare type of reoccuring brain tumor in 2014.

 

We are raising funds for possible clinical trials, alternative treatments and to support him with any costs at the current stage he is at.

 

Tawanda's journey began in 2014, the time he was supposed to go to University he was diagnosed with a brain tumour called Ependymoma, which was reclassified in 2020 to Astroblastoma. These tumours occur in the brain and also down into the spine. Throughout this long and challenging journey, Tawanda has had 3 brain surgeries, 2 spinal surgeries, 63 radiotherapy sessions and chemotherapy. He has also had numerous physio sessions, speech and language therapy and other therapies to help with his recovery following each treatment intervention. Despite all this, with multiple gap years inbetween his studies for surgery and treatment, Tawanda still managed to graduate from the University of Kent with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Therapy!. He went on to write a book and started a social enterprise entitled @rareandloved. Tawanda is also a music lover and an outstanding keyboard player.

 

Although he has been fighting hard for 8 years, Tawanda is always wearing a smile that brightens up the room. This is even after his medical team have informed him that in line with available treatment plans on the NHS there is nothing more they can do. Tawanda has not lost hope and we have not lost hope too!!

 

Like any other 26 year old young man, Tawanda has many aspirations, to work as a Sports Therapist, to start a family and to travel the world and we are here to support him achieve this!!

This fundraiser is being organised by #teamTawanda led by me, Cynthia Masiyiwa Mukoko based in the UK. I am Tawanda's aunty his mum's younger sister.  Once all the funds have been raised they will be transferred to Tawanda's mum, Maina Chamunorwa who is also handling all the financial responsibilities at this stage.
