From Denise:
Writing these words are no easier than saying them. My name is Denise and I'm 45 years young and have advanced stage low grade terminal ovarian Cancer. I know, a mouthful, right? I was first diagnosed in 2005, and I've beaten it 7 times. That's right, 7 times! Number 8 is in my sight! I worked for the Centers for Disease Control doing health research through most of my illness, this eventually became impossible when I reached stage 4. I'm very lucky to have had my friends and family helping me.
I'm now at a stage of treatment that they refer to as "salvage" therapy. Such a fun term, which basically means no current approved medications or treatments are known to cure the very rare subtype of ovarian cancer that I have. I have undergone Multiple rounds of all approved chemotherapies. I've had 13 surgeries, thriving with only 72 cm of intestines, something I'm very proud of. I also have an ileostomy (AKA) Stomy, and a cancer that believes me to be a wonderful host! I'm out to prove this cancer wrong!
I've had the tumors genetically tested and there is a medication they believe could give me a chance, even if it's just for more time. Also, there have been research studies showing promising results at
MD ANDERSON. My insurance has denied this medication because it isn't FDA approved for my type of cancer. This drugs name is IBRANCE. I've looked into buying this medication without insurance and it averages $13,000 for a three-week supply. You almost laugh until you realize it's real!
I have so much to look forward to, and it is time to realize I need help. I'm asking for any help that you can give, and not just monetary help. If you have any contacts, or programs, or ideas on ways to procure this drug I would be very grateful. Thank you for helping me beat this for
the 8th and final time!
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support Denise during this difficult time and to help her obtain the treatment she needs to kick cancer's butt indefinitely. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
