Hi, my name's Matt. I want to tell you a little bit about my friend, Jesse Acosta.
I met Jesse back around 2008. I work with (and am friends with) his mom, and she said to me, "You should meet my son. He likes a lot of the same things you do, like comics, and stuff." Now, at the time I was in my mid-thirties, so I hadn't been on a play date with other kids my age in a while, but I didn't have many comics friends, so I thought, "What the heck."
That chance comment by a well-meaning mom has become an eight-year friendship. In that time we've gone to comic-cons large and small, we've spent all night drawing and meeting other artists and writers, and talking about our hopes and dreams together. Jesse met his wife Veronica and started a family.
And then the cancer hit. It hit, and it was like cancer always is; it was nasty, and brutal, and I saw all the pain and anguish this caused my friend, and his mom, and all of us who have come to know and love Jesse. But he's been fighting and fighting hard, and we're all pulling for him. But that fighting comes at a cost.
Jesse's family has massive medical expenses due to his ongoing treatments, and they just can't do it alone. If you can find it in your heart to help, I know that they would be eternally grateful.
You might not know Jesse personally, but I'm willing to bet all of us have someone in their lives that they can't believe that they were ever without. Jesse is one of those people to me. If you help him, you've got my eternal gratitude too.
