Pam’s Fight Against Colon Cancer

Donation protected
Pamela Jo Rice is a loving wife, mother, grandma, auntie, daughter, sister, and friend.

Pam had been struggling with back and abdominal pain on and off for many weeks. She saw an ob/gyn who did a UA (which was negative) and an abdominal ultrasound (which showed a large fibroid in her uterus). Nothing to serious.

At age 56, and with a father who has a history of colon cancer, she decided a colonoscopy needed to be done. She went ahead and had it scheduled for Monday, April 16th.

In the mean time she consulted with a primary doctor to establish care, get some basic labs, and get his thoughts on her back/abdominal pain as well as her extreme fatigue. Her abdomen was extremely tender when he examined her. He told her if the colonoscopy comes back normal the uterine fibroid needs to come out.

Monday, April 16th came around and auntie went in to have her colonoscopy. The surgeon barely got the scope in and he was stopped. There was a large mass in the sigmoid colon. The surgeon knew it was not good. Biopsies were taken and sent off to pathology. The results came back just a couple days later with the news we knew, but didn’t want to hear. That one word that hurts so bad.

“Cancer.”

Pathology confirmed that Pam has Adenocarcinoma of the Colon. Pam had surgery yesterday to have the mass removed. She will spend the next several days in the hospital recovering. She will most likely be needing chemo, but they want to give her body time to heal from the surgery before they start. We will know more on the staging of the cancer etc once the pathology comes back from the entire mass/surrounding lymph nodes.

We all go through tough times throughout life with some being more difficult than others. Pam has a long road ahead of her. Even with insurance the medical bills are going to start adding up quickly. My uncle Brian, Pam’s husband, will be out of work for quite some time until she can get back on her toes. I would like to take as much weight off their shoulders as possible. If you are unable to donate please at least share this.

More than anything I know aunt would ask for a simple prayer. Her faith is so strong even through this extremely difficult and testing time. Please pray for Pam, all the family and loved ones, and the medical professionals.

I can not thank you all enough for all your love and support!!
