Help Heather Rebuild After Hurricane Helene

Donation protected
On the morning of September 27, my dear friend Heather Williams’ life was turned upside down when Hurricane Helene destroyed her home in South Carolina. Heather, a work-from-home single mother, was asleep when her son, Noah woke her just in time to flee. They escaped into the street, facing 70mph winds, and were stranded after fallen trees blocked the roads. A kind stranger picked them up and brought them to safety.

When they were finally able to return, they found that a tree had fallen right where Heather had been sleeping, with several more trees crashing onto their home and trapping their cars. Fortunately, their pets stayed nearby and were rescued, but the devastation to her home and property is overwhelming. It’s heartbreaking to imagine what could have happened had her son not acted so quickly.

Heather is an incredibly selfless person who has always given so much to others. Even now, despite losing nearly everything, she’s still trying to help those around her. Her home, along with many cherished and sentimental belongings, is gone. Although FEMA and insurance will provide some assistance, it won’t be enough to cover the high costs of housing, nor the expenses of clearing what remains of her former home.

As a work-from-home mother, Heather has been unable to work, not only due to her loss but also because of widespread power outages in the area. Thankfully, she will have a temporary place to stay in a hotel, but with her son along with their pets—2 cats, 2 bunnies, and a dog—it’s not a long-term solution. She needs stability and some sense of normalcy as she and her son face an uncertain future. It’s been recommended that she not rebuild on her land, making it even more challenging to find a permanent home.

Heather remains in good spirits, but I know how difficult this situation is for her and her family.

Heather would never ask for help herself, but I know she needs it now more than ever. I’m hoping we can come together to help alleviate some of the financial burden she’s facing and give her the chance to rebuild her life and find stability for her family. I am fundraising to help Heather find and secure a new home for her family and give them a fresh start after this unimaginable loss. The initial fundraising of $20,000 would be used to put down on a new home for Heather to move into.

Any contribution, no matter the size, would be a huge help in getting Heather and her family back on their feet. Please consider donating and sharing her story. Your kindness means everything!
