Frank Chapa is a member of Local 106 as he works in Bellevue as part of the EIRP Gas group. We have proved over and over again that we take care of our own and this is another opportunity to reach out to a union brother while they go through a difficult time. Please donate and share to help out a brother in need! On April 11th 2017 Frank Chapa had a brain bleed from a condition known as arteriovenous malformation (AVM). This was a tough road last year as there were some serious concerns on what action should be taken. With a 4% chance of this bleed reoccurring the decision was made to not perform brain surgery as the risk of the surgery outweighed the probability of it reoccurring. On Feb 21st 2018 Frankie left work with a bad headache and went to the hospital. While at the hospital Frankie experienced an extensive brain bleed. Since then it has been an incredibly long road. Frankie was in an medically induced coma for quite some time while he had fluid drained off his brain. During this time he developed pneumonia and fought a high fever all while trying to reduce the swelling on the brain. At this point it is hard to tell how much damage has been done to the brain as this assessment will take place in the coming months. Frankie is now at Mary Free Bed in Grand Rapids. While he has regained some motor skills back on the right side of his body, in Grand Rapids he will continue his extensive physical therapy to regain some movement on his left size. This is a very important time as this is the next step before they can treat the real problem being the AVM. It is believed that he will still have to have brain surgery when he is further along in his physical therapy journey. Frankie has a very long way to go and we would appreciate your help in any way. It is apparent Frankie will run out of sick time while recovering and we are looking to help ease this financial pain. The family will also experience some extensive cost while traveling for surgery. Please give what you can as anything will be greatly appreciated.
