My big sister has cancer.

I can't believe I have to type those words, but in the last few weeks it has been the only topic of conversation. Throughout my life, Megan has been my built-in best friend—always making sure I felt loved and supported. Growing up, it was her bed I would seek when I had a scary dream, and I always knew she would protect me, no matter what. As an adult, Megan has dedicated her career to helping others and is working as part of the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society in Charleston, SC, among many other non-profits on her resume.

Now, at 35, my big sister Megan has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer - specifically invasive ductal carcinoma, which has spread to her lymph nodes and spine. Currently, she is receiving treatment at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston. However, we are also seeking a second opinion from the experts at Sloan Kettering at the end of August, as we pray for the best possible options for her care.

While Megan is fortunate to have good health insurance, the expenses associated with her medical tests, treatments, and travel between Charleston and NYC remain incredibly high. Additionally, we need to remain flexible to pursue any clinical trial opportunities that Megan may qualify for, which also incurs costs.
