Help Fix Salon's Window!
Donation protected
Salon Gallery is a cultural hub in Cliftonville, providing affordable opportunities for artists to share their exceptional work, and a constantly evolving showcase of the vibrant local art community here in Margate. In our two years of operating, we have hosted over 100 artists across over 50 group and solo shows, and have been a springboard to the careers of dozens of local artists.
We recently lost one of the beautiful antique curved glass panes of our iconic window to an unrelated street altercation which saw a chair thrown at the gallery. While we have insurance, there is a premium of £300 which we cannot afford.
We genuinely care about our mission to make exhibiting accessible, its the whole point of the project, and its the only way we can start to dismantle some of the structural barriers to entry that keep so much excellent art out of public view.
To keep artist costs low, we only charge what we need to in order to cover the core costs of the gallery (rent, bills etc), and our team of three has donated countless hours in free work over the past two years to make exhibiting here a realistic possibility for as many artists as possible. Nobody involved in running the Salon project has taken a penny of salary or seen any personal economic benefit at any point.
Against this backdrop, we are reaching out to our local community, and those who have attended any of our 50 free exhibitions so far to ask for a small gesture of support in order to keep doing what we do.
If we end up in the fortunate position of generating a suplus from this crowdfunder, that money will be used to give free exhibition opportunities to local talent!
