I wanted to take a moment to write to you to let you know about a great opportunity God has opened up for me to share the love of Jesus in Alaska this May with a mission team from Faith Reformed Church. I am very excited about this opportunity to follow where God is leading and I cannot wait to see how He will use me, and my team, to glorify His name.
While in Alaska, we will be serving the people throughout the greater Anchorage area, which also includes the Wasilla/Palmer and Kenai/Soldotna communities. Now, you may be wondering, why Alaska? Most people tend to think of Alaska as only a tourist destination, and God certainly worked overtime making it one of the most beautiful places on earth. However, Alaska is also a spiritually dark mission field. According to the Pew Research Center, Alaska has the lowest percentage of church attendance in the United States. Anchorage itself is considered one of the top five most diverse cities in the United States. As we partner with Global Partnership Ministries, which is based in Anchorage, we will have the opportunity to share Christ with a variety of people and multiethnic communities including people of Sudanese, Samoan, Hispanic, Native American, Korean, and Hmong backgrounds "“ among many others. Global Partnership Ministries believes that the Great Commission calls for the Church to go to the World "“ to bring the Church to where the people are at.
Each day will provide new opportunities to share the love of Christ with those we are serving. In the mornings, we will be serving those in need throughout the communities by participating in a variety of service projects. At lunch, our team will be working with other teams to serve healthy meals to hungry kids in the disadvantaged communities. In the afternoons, our team will do backyard bible school, sports, crafts, music, and games with the community children and youth "“ rain or shine. In the evenings, we will be holding park/neighborhood picnics. This will allow us the opportunity to connect with the adults in the community. Overall, it creates a wonderful relaxed environment for personal evangelism. Through all of this, the goal is to generate small groups throughout the communities where people can meet Christ and grow in Christ.
While God has opened up a door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion and service for His people everywhere, the exciting part is that you have an opportunity to be able to share in this in a couple of ways. First, you can help by praying for me and my fellow teammates. We need prayers that God will prepare us and bless our efforts as we minister to the people of Anchorage, AK. Also, please pray for our financial needs to be met. In order to make this mission trip possible, our team need to raise approximately $6000.00, which will cover all travel and ministry expenses. Second, if you feel led, would you consider praying about helping me, and my team, financially with a donation? Whether you feel led to contribute financially or commit to prayer (or both), I truly appreciate your support. I can hardly wait to see how God uses me to do His work in Alaska. I look forward to giving you a full report when I return. Thanks again! God bless...
