On November 8, 2018, Erik, Victoria and one-year old Stephen Caldwell were awakened by phone call from a neighbor urgently telling them they needed to leave immediately; there was fire burning in their back yard. They quickly got dressed, grabbed the baby, the dogs and the cat, and ran for their cars. For four hours they fought their way through flames and devastation in Paradise, California until they reached safety in Chico (about 15 miles away).

As the fires raged on, they found temporary shelter. On November 11, 2018, they received the devastating news that their home and all their belongings had been consumed by the fire.

Now begins the task of rebuilding. Their first priority is, of course, Stephen. They are searching for rental property near their work in Chico. The list of what they need is overwhelming. They must pay a hefty deductible for their homeowners Insurance. And, they must continue to pay the mortgage payments for the house they can no longer live in. They have a steep hill to climb.
