On Sunday, June 18, I will be running the fourth annual New York Cat Hospital Father's Day Marathon. And as sole participant, there's a good chance I'll win...again!
I'm running to raise funds for two special CAT RESCUE groups: Frankie's Feline Fund (http://www.frankiesfelinefund.org/)
and Ready for Rescue (http://www.readyforrescue.org/).
These dedicated feline advocates pull elderly, ill, or otherwise unadoptable cats from the euthanasia lists at area shelters, provide vital medical care, and place them in foster and forever homes. Between them they've saved literally hundreds of loving, wonderful cats from an unnecessary end.
We're dedicating this year's run to sweet, charming, toothless "Rizzo" (pictured above), one of the aforementioned rescues. So full of personality, Rizzo was a client and staff favorite, and lived happily here with us at New York Cat Hospital for two years before his recent demise :(
Last year was a "midnight marathon:" I started at the stroke of midnight, and ran through the night on a dark, isolated, semi-rural trail. Not doing that again...
This year will instead be a MANHATTAN MARATHON. I'll start at the cat hospital, and run a full loop around the island of Manhattan! I'm excited, as I've never done this before. Depending on my exact course (TBD), I'll likely cover 29 or 30 miles.
