For more than 400 local people, Reading Mencap's home at 21 Alexandra Road is more than bricks and mortar—it’s where we’re able to support them to be happy, healthy, have aspirations, and choose how they live their lives.
To run safe services and keep our home in good condition is expensive.
Help us keep our doors open for the second home of many local people with a learning disability:
- £5 could keep our phone line connected for a week so people can call us.
- £10 could provide fuel for a trip in our minibus so that people with a learning disability can access the community.
- £25 could cover the cost of our electricity for a week.
- £50 could pay for equipment to maintain our garden for people with a learning disability to enjoy.
- £100 could cover our water rates for 3 weeks, so that people can use our kitchen and bathrooms.
Reading Mencap's passion is to continue to run our 4ME Activities Service five days a week, as well as our popular Gateway Club. We want to continue to have a base for our Family Advisers and Carers Coordinator, who deliver vital information and advice.
However, with the recent loss of £22,000 in council funding and greater challenges in securing grants, we're facing increasing financial pressures and we need your support.
Helping us keep our doors open enables us to provide opportunities and activities that:
- Reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation
- Develop confidence and skills
- Improve health and wellbeing
- Increase understanding of options and rights
All of which lead to a better overall quality of life for people with a learning disability and their families.
Last year 100% of adults with a learning disability said that Reading Mencap had made their lives better, with 67% saying it’s a lot better.
