My daughter Rachel was born with one kidney and two uteri (renal agenesis and uterus didelphys). As a developing embryo, the uterus septum remained, resulting in the two halves of her uterus separating.
After surgery in 2013 to remove one of the uteri, she was essentially left with “half a uterus”. The possibility of pregnancy was highly unlikely. But a little miracle ‘Belly Bean’ has defied the odds, and Rachel is now 18 weeks pregnant with a little boy.
The fear is turning into excitement, but unfortunately her new medical aid has a twelve-month exclusion for pregnancy. With a specialist in high-risk pregnancies closely monitoring them both, and the certainty of an early caesarean delivery (due to the lack of space in utero, and the frightening possibility of uterine rupture), the quotes for this precious boy to arrive safely are in the hundreds of thousands. He is already a blessing, and we would like to give him and his mommy the best medical care available for this very rare medical situation.
Rachel is happy to share her experience with donors, and any donations will be gratefully appreciated in order to bring both of them safely through this miraculous and rare pregnancy.
