Hi All!
I have a friend who is in need of some prayers, good vibes, love, and support, and during a very difficult time.
First I want you all to know a little bit about Jose and why he means so much to me and others. Those who know him know how selfless he is. He is always there for his friends and family. He is a giver, he loves spending time with his friends, and he is the poster child of what a good friend should be. He is real, honest, smart, a talented hairdresser, and so fun to be around. Because of all those qualities he is loved by many.
What many of you may not know about him is that he is living with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes (also called juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent diabetes), accounts for 5-10% of people who have diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body and causing all kinds of major health issues.
The one negative thing I have to say about him is that he has too much pride. He doesn't want to be a burden to anyone. His pride stops him from asking for help and admitting that not all is well. As his friend I know that help is needed, and I am willing to have him be a little upset with me for setting this page up for him.
Unfortunately his health has taken a turn for the worse. Due to his diabetes, he has developed End Stage Renal Failure and must endure dialysis three times a week. Due to another common complication of diabetes, he now has a foot infection which required unexpected surgeries in the past few days and has had a high grade fever for approximately 12 days. He has been hospitalized at Beth Israel for a week now and no release date has been determined. To date I believe he will be having another surgery coming up.
With all that said he has been unable to work, and it is unclear when he will be able to. In his line of work if you don't work you don't get paid. Medical bills and regular bills are piling up, I know he is stressed out wondering how he will pay his rent, and take care of his beloved dogs, etc... This is not what I want my friend to be focusing on, his main focus should be on his health and getting well.
I've never seen my strong, beautiful friend whom I look up to so sick, vulnerable and scared. It breaks my heart and my sole purpose of setting up this page is to give him a little peace of mind, to follow the doctor's orders and heal. Any way you could help would be greatly appreciated. I know that if he were to see this page describing someone else, he wouldn't hesitate to give.
Thank you and I hope for nothing but happiness and health to all who took the time to read this and donate.
