Early Thanksgiving morning, our friend, coworker and beloved Mic’s bartender, Cody, left work to grab breakfast on his way home and that motorcycle ride ended in a devastating accident.

Cody was hit by a driver who made an illegal left-hand turn directly into him. The driver was traveling at a high speed, leaving Cody no time to avoid the collision. Despite wearing full protective gear, Cody was thrown from his bike and left unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital, where he spent all of Thanksgiving in emergency surgery.

Cody’s injuries are extensive. His pelvis was broken in half, his tibia and fibula were shattered, his knee and wrist were fractured, and his body suffered severe road rash requiring countless stitches. At just 33 years old, Cody now has metal rods, pins, and screws throughout his body—and a long, painful road to recovery ahead.

If you know Cody, you know a few things to be true:

• He is one of the kindest and most generous people you’ll ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back and always shows up for others. On your worst day, Cody finds a way to make you laugh with his positivity and quick wit.

• He is a true lover of music—there isn’t an instrument he can’t play. Whether it’s grabbing a guitar or sitting at the piano, Cody is always ready to play and sing a song to brighten someone’s day.

• He is fiercely independent and hates asking for help. Stubborn? Absolutely—but in the best way.

Unfortunately, Cody does not have medical insurance. All of his surgeries and ongoing medical care are entirely his responsibility. While, he does have motorcycle insurance, it is liability only, meaning his totaled bike is not covered.

Donations will go directly toward medical bills, physical therapy, recovery related expenses, lost wages and securing a new vehicle.

We—his friends and coworkers—are stepping up to ask for help on his behalf, because we know Cody would never ask himself.
