For those of you who don't know, our mother has been battling a very rare heart condition for some time now. While she lives her life with a smile on her face, living positively and happily, her insides sing to a different tune. She has been battling these demons for some time now and their battle has shown to be fiercer than we expected. Her stage 4 kidney failure alone is a treacherous mountain to climb, but that paired with her rare heart disease Apical Hypertropic Cardiomyopathy, a battle that is not easily won.
Luckily our mom is a fighter. She is tenacious, and kind hearted. While her heart is not so kind back, mom fights every day to overcome what her body no longer allows of her.
For those of you who don't know, Mom is undergoing open heart surgery next week. While this surgery may be easy for some, it will be a long and strenuous process for mom. You see, her heart not only is oddly shaped, but its not working properly. Eventually, she will need a heart transplant, but her amazing team of doctors is hopeful that this surgery will prolong the need for a heart transplant for now. Next week they will be going in and clearing out three sides of her heart so it can function properly.
Here is where we need your help. The cost of the surgery is astonishing. Unfortunately it doesn't stop there. Due to her failing kidneys as well, she will not only need to undergo intense hospital care, but she also may need to receive dialysis in order to help her kidneys function. Eventually a heart transplant AND a kidney transplant will be in her future, but for now this open heart surgery will suffice.
My mother has always been there for us, she is the first to offer her house for anyone who needs a place to stay, she is the first to offer advice whether we want it or not (LOL), and she is the first to open her heart to us.
Now it is our turn to repay the favor. She has enough battles to fight and enough to worry about each and every day. Let us take this financial burden off of her, and allow her to solely focus on recovering and becoming the healthiest she can be.
She is not just a mother, but she is a daughter, a sister, a grandma, a wife, and a friend. Let her continue to live out those roles for many years to come. Let her continue to beat the odds, and astonish doctors everywhere as a walking anomaly.
