BJ’s Medical Bills

Hi, I’m Kelly and I’m fundraising for my step mother’s healthcare costs. Her name is BJ Duff. She has stage 3 advanced bronchogenic lung cancer (9.4 x 8.4 cm lung mass), as well as long COVID, COPD, and emphysema. Unfortunately, she does not have health insurance and cannot apply for insurance again until open season in November.

Even before her chemotherapy can begin, BJ has to undergo 3 rounds of iron infusions to boost her energy and try to get her bloodwork into more normal ranges so she can tolerate the chemo.

BJ has very little energy, and most days, all she is able to do is sit in a recliner with her feet elevated. For those of you that know her, this is a very different version of BJ than we are used to seeing. Previously, she was always on her feet. She had a busy job managing 8 swimming pools and maintaining their chemical balances. She was also supportive of other family members and would drive them to their medical appointments.

But, BJ can no longer work or manage a household. This cancer and long COVID have really wreaked havoc on her body.

BJ has already racked up over $27K in medical costs just from lab work, medical tests and important scans to help diagnose her.
