Firefighter Ray Hancock

Here’s your chance to honor a hero. We hear a lot about heroes but some of us get to know one. Ray Hancock was one of those heroes that some of us were lucky enough to get to know. Ray lost his battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on April 1. Fittingly, that was both Easter, as Ray’s family is one of faith and April Fool’s Day, as Ray was a person who was always ready with a joke and loved to make everyone laugh. Ray served for 19 years in the Navy as an EOD diver specializing in ordinance disposal, was active during Desert Storm and was reactivated after the attacks of 9/11. Ray was a Firefighter/EMT, one of the first Ladder Driver Operators and a Rescue Tech with the Marysville Fire District. We all loved Ray. He could be a focused professional when needed but would always diffuse any situation with his smile and sense of humor. He has been dearly missed over his long 8-year struggle. His wife and sons have placed their lives on hold, devoting all their time to caring for Ray and to making his days “Five Star Days.” They have been active in the community helping others with the Months of Loving On Our Community. Now it is our chance to once more show our love for our brother and friend and his amazing family. Please help cover the costs of his services to give Ray the send off he deserves and honor him and his family.
