On July 29th Mike's evening started with a breast cancer charity event in fairfax. He left there headed back to Cedar Rapids to meet up with friends and go for a motorcycle ride. He stopped at home to swap out his car for his bike and headed to Rumors. As he neared Rumors he slowed down, turned on his blinker and came to a stop to wait for oncoming traffic before turning. That was when he was rear ended by a car going an estimated 35 miles an hour. Mike sustained a skull fracture to the back of his head, a brain bleed in the front of his head and road rash on his elbows and back when he was thrown from the bike. He was transported to Mercy and then to the U of I where he spent one night in the ICU and one night on the neurology floor. He is back home but still in a lot of pain, has migraine headaches, no appetite, lots of nausea/dizziness and soreness throughout his entire body. He has to have around the clock supervision as he needs assistance to do just about everything.
As most of you know Mike suffered a devastating loss to his business when the floods of 2008 flooded his bar from basement to ceiling. He managed to re open 6 months later but the fall out from the flood was just too much and ultimately he would have to close the doors this past year.
Mike didn't waste anytime starting over. He got a CDL license and started a job driving Limos. He also has a part time job delivering for Panera. He was just getting his feet back under him when this horrible accident happened. It is unclear how long he will be unable to work but it definitely won't be anytime soon. He will have no incoming wages until he is fully recovered and unfortunately he recently lost his health insurance leaving it difficult for him to get by while the legalities of the accident are sorted out and settled. We..his family...are reaching out asking for your donations to help him get by until he can get back on his feet. There are no words to express our gratitude for your ongoing love and support that help Dad to stay positive and to heal. Thank you!
