Romeo the Tiny Rescue Shih Tzu Needs Your Help

- My name is Lisa and I had the good luck of being the foster mom and adoptive family for Romeo, a tiny Shih Tzu with a warrior heart who had been abandoned in terrible shape and found his way to me in Feb 2020. He was skin and bones, with a bleeding tumor on his backside and several other health problems. But with love, attention, good food, and medical care, he thrived. Now he is facing a new medical challenge, and he stopped eating two weeks ago. He has been hospitalized three times. It took huge efforts to find an internal medicine specialist who would see him now instead of making him wait 4-12 weeks, time he simply doesn’t have. He is currently in a vet hospital in Greenville, SC. Today (Fri July 15), his amazing specialist doctor will use a scope to look for signs of the GI tract disease she believes he has. She will also place a feeding tube in his neck/esophagus to get some nutrition in his body before his healthy organs start shutting down. He will be in the hospital for a few more days. Why am I trying so hard to save him? His blood work looks good, and his organs are healthy. He does not have clinical signs of organ failure. He has only enjoyed 2.5 years of the good life after rescue. I think there is more joy ahead for him if we can get him back on track with eating. The price is high, but I believe he is worth it. I could use some help with the cost, though. He is not insured because his medical history and unknown age made him not eligible for pet insurance. I will share pictures of itemized invoices to verify the cost of medical treatment. I believe helping animals like Romeo is meaningful work in this world. I am happy to be his voice and his advocate, and we are lucky to have a network of friends and kind strangers who want to help.
