Praying for Scarlett

This account has been set up for Kay & Dennis Shumate in efforts to raise money to help them with doctor bills or any expenses that may arrise while their daughter is in the hospital. Scarlett became ill this past weekend (10.25.15) with a fever and vomiting that would not break and ended up causing a seizure. This of course threw Kay & Dennis into a panic as they had never dealt with anything like this before. They immediately called the after hours urgent care and were told to take her to see her pediatrician the following day. Kay took Scarlett the next morning to the pediatrician and she was told to bring her back if the vomiting and fever continued into the next day & diagnosed Scarlett with a virus. Later that night Kay began to notice Scarlett was confused and her speech was slurred and the end to the fever and vomiting was no where in sight. Kay and Dennis then made the decision to take Scarlett to the emergency room & hours later Scarlett was being admitted to the hospital and being treated (unofficially as the test takes days to come back) for viral meningitis. Scarlett had a high fever & finally with enough meds the dr's were able to get her fever down to 99-100 which was a blessing but they were still unsure of the cause for Scarlett's slurred speech & confusion. On 10.29.15 at 7am Scarlett stopped moving & talking all together and she was transferred to the ICU where they are getting ready to draw out more fluid from her spine, preparing for a MRI, and the hospital has also called in a infectious disease dr looking for answers.

Kay is a stay at home mom to 4 daughters & Dennis works as the sole provider in the family. Dennis is missing a lot of work to help Kay with the kids and with hospital "rotations" & this unfortunate situation has put a strain on this family not only physically & mentally, but also financially. Anything you can donate to this amazing  family would be appreciated and if you simply can not we understand but we do ask that you say a prayer for Scarlett & her family.
