On Monday, Aug 10th, my cousin Christi Bastion drove her roommate, Melissa Bencosme to work.  About five minutes from the job site, they were involved in a horrific car accident, struck repeatedly and pulled under the load of a semi truck loaded with sand. 

A trauma team from Sentara General Hospital came to the site and helped to keep them alive for three hours before they were pulled from the wreck and taken to the Emergency room.  As you can see from the pictures and coverage, they are profoundly blessed to be alive.

After several surgeries and the loss of limbs for both of them, they face a long road to recovery and a completely changed life.  My family and Melissa's are grateful and we know God has a plan, but we are all still trying to process what has happened and understand it. 

Melissa's family has started a fund for her recovery and this one is for Christi Bastion.  They have been such close friends for so long that we want to support both of them as they work toward wellness.

Christi is facing enormous medical bills, rehabilitation, prosthetics and general expenses as they heal.  If you can help in any way, your donation would be greatly appreciated.  All donations will go to cover living and medical expenses for Christi as she copes with all of this.

I will post pictures and updates as often as I can as she works to rebuild her life and get better after her many surgeries and continued medical care.  It is estimated she will be hospitalized for many weeks and then have full-time rehab to learn to walk again.
