Holly was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2024. She and her husband Matt have five kids and run Serving Hands Medical Center, a non-profit, Christian, faith-based medical clinic they founded in Vancouver, WA.
From Holly:
Chemotherapy will be 20 weeks with a few weeks of break for my body to recover and then I will have a unilateral mastectomy and lymph node removal of three lymph nodes. They are planning for radiation to follow, but I’m really hoping to avoid that. The biggest stress is the finances since we were already living paycheck to paycheck with two incomes and now we are down to one since I am unable to work during treatment. They are saying the last eight weeks of chemotherapy is harder because it’s a more intense medication and that might be when my energy goes down so I’m doing my best to try to get the homeschool year finished up before that starts since I homeschool our three little ones. Matt is looking at remote work to cover our expenses but he already works full time at the clinic and has one remote job. The best thing is is I have had indescribable peace and joy through all this because I did a total surrender and I’m just walking with Jesus! Our kids are doing amazing and I’m feeling good. It really is a blessing to be under His wing.
I am applying for breast cancer patient grants from private nonprofits as well, but so far I’ve been denied for all of them because of lack of funding so I’m trying to get help in other places!
