Friends and family,
We are raising money for my sister Emily's cancer treatment. Here are a few words directly from her:
"I can't believe I'm sitting here and typing the words, 'I have breast cancer.' How is this my story? This story began last summer in August of 2019. After the suggestion of my gynecologist I was tested for the genetic mutation that causes breast and ovarian cancer. We have history of this type of cancer in our family and my grandmother died of ovarian cancer in her 40's. I found out then that I do have the BRCA1 genetic mutation and I started the journey of diagnostic testing every 6 months. Unfortunately after my 2nd round of tests we have learned that I have developed one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer.
I have had every emotion possible. I'm sad, scared, angry and I've even laughed a little. Granted in an awkward, anxiety filled way, but I'm still laughing and making jokes! I'm also slightly embarrassed that I am in need of help. I don't know my full treatment plan at this point but what I do know is I need to have surgery as soon as possible and recovery will be at least 5-6 weeks.
My surgery will cost $10,000 and I will be out of work for all of my recovery time. I am self employed as a hair stylist, and as such I do not have any vacation, sick or disability paid time off.
The good news is the spot they found is small. The bad news is it is an aggressive and fast growing cancer. I need to have this surgery as soon as possible. Any help you can offer will be helpful and you will never know how much your help will be appreciated."
Thank you for taking the time to read. Please help us support Emily if you can and please hold us in your thoughts and prayers.
Peace and Blessings,
