Bent Not Broken

For those of you who know my family, you know that we would never ask for help if we did not need it. My sister, Stacey, and her family, are in need of some help from those that know and love them. Most of you are aware that Kali has been diagnosed with a 60 degree scoliosis curve which is now affecting her breathing. After months of treatment, much of which has not been covered by insurance, her condition is not getting better. Kali is in need of surgery before she finishes growing. Those of you who know Kali know she is an extremely active 14 year old girl who loves to cheer, tumble and play softball. Most of these activities will not be possible if she has a fusion surgery. Her spine will be fused from the base of her neck to her tailbone, not allowing her to continue doing the things she loves and the recovery time could be years. After much research and many doctor visits, Kali will be undergoing a different type of surgery next Thursday which will allow her to continue doing the things she loves, but the surgery is not covered by insurance. Stacey and Rob will need to take significant time off from work, as Kali will be hospitalized for an extended amount of time and then home to go through extensive therapy. 

My sister and brother-in-law are not the type of people to ask for help. They are amazing parents who want what is best for their children and will do anything for them. The overall cost of this surgery is still unknown. They have already paid tens of thousands of dollars just to get Kali on the surgical schedule, and that was just a deposit. 

As Kali says, she is "bent, not broken". Any donations you can give will greatly assist the DeMott family and allow them to focus on Kali and her recovery.
