We are stuck - literally.
The transmission in our faithful 17 year-old RAV4 finally gave out three weeks ago on our way to the vet up in Malibu. After spending two days in a field trying to figure out what to do next, we managed to get towed back to a little street next to our favorite park in Santa Monica. As some of you may know, the kids and I have been living in our car for some time now, and it’s been quite a challenging journey. And yet, somehow, we’ve managed to adapt and to cope. However, this latest hurdle is definitely too high for me to leap (or climb) over without your help. We desperately need a van or small rv (or several thousand $$$ to repair/replace the transmission, new tires, brake repair).
Meanwhile, as we sit here, the street sweeping tickets are piling up and SSI Disability simply doesn’t cover even our regular monthly expenses. (don’t ask!) and now we are unable to chase the shade as necessary throughout the day. The recent rains have been helpful, but the weather is beginning to warm up and that poses a major problem as the car tends to get pretty hot, even in Santa Monica.
So - here we are, hoping that you’ll find it in your heart (and wallet) to give us a hand in these rather tough times...
with much love and gratitude,
Marta and kids
