I am a 27 year old woman, I work full time for the NHS as a ward clerk which can be quite full on. I Spend almost all of my free time with my dogs. I have a full and rich life, some could say "normal."
I was born with one hand, although have never let this hold me back or stop me from being independent It can make life challenging to say the least. "Simple" tasks such as getting dressed, driving and preparing food can take much longer to achieve than it would for most. The tin opener is my nemesis.
Recently while scrolling through social media I happened upon a new type of prosthetic a Hero arm . Dubious, previous experiences with prosthesis throughout my life have left me frustrated and hopeless. They have been clunky, heavy and much more of hindrance than help so the idea of one has not appealed to me since. Never the less I was curious, I followed the link and quickly fell down a rabbit hole of hopeful and inspiring stories, days later after much research I decided that this one was different to all that preceded it. I knew I had to find a way to change my life forever and have my own HERO ARM .
This was my first hurdle they are not yet available on the NHS and who has £13000 in there back pocket for just such an occasion. After feeling slightly, very deflated by this daunting task my friend pushed me to reach out and use a go fund me page to help me achieve my goal.
How many other people are in the same boat? This is something I want to help to raise awareness about and help others by promoting the need for these incredible technological advancements to be readily available on the NHS for all children born with out limbs as well as amputees. I am hoping that through my own journey I can pave the way for others.
