My sister has pancreatic cancer and a number of her friends and coworkers have asked that a GoFundMe page be set up to help her out.
Theresa is stage 2 and because of her age (54) and overall health (good) the outlook is positive. On the flip side, it is pancreatic cancer, so her treatment is very intense.
She is on the first round of chemo and steroids now. She goes to the oncology clinic weekly for a round administered there and then has a 2 day drip pack put on. This part is almost over and she will get a short break. The second step is a weekly drip pack and daily radiation. This will go on for 5-6 weeks. Then a short break followed up with Whipple surgery where they will remove part of the pancreas, the gallbladder, the duodenum and possibly part of her stomach and intestines.
Thankfully, Theresa has an amazing employer that offers excellent health and disability insurance. They are supporting her emotionally and she will have a job when she comes through this. They are a huge reason that we are doing this, as the employees there seem to rally around each other. I cannot say enough good things about Admiral Merchant.
Even with the excellent benefits, treating cancer is incredibly expensive. The short term disability just kicked in and it is 40% of her salary for 90 days. After that, long term will start and it is 60% of her salary. This won't cover her mortgage, regular bills, food and the medical bills that will eventually roll in.
I'd like to add one thing. Theresa is raising 3 of her grandchildren and 2 foster children, ages 5 to 14. These kids have been with her for most of their lives and she has done an incredible job raising them. They are all amazing people. I believe that she literally saved their lives and now I want to help save hers. Vanessa
