You might not know Richard Reynolds or me, but Richard has been my best friend since we met in High School many years ago. Despite a college degree in Criminal Justice, Richard decided that he would prefer working with people during happy times and so he became a professional waiter. He started his career in Daytona Beach, Florida and then made the big leap to the island of Maui in Hawaii. His love of people combined with his kindness and his generosity to his fellow staff and his clients led him to become one of the most popular servers in one of the most popular restaurants on the island. Regulars to the restaurant would specifically ask for one of his tables, where they were treated as extended family. Richard had made a home for himself in paradise.
Two years ago, Richard's energy level was low and he wasn't himself. As a type 1 diabetic, we all assumed he just needed his medication adjusted. We were wrong. Richard was diagnosed with slow-growing colon cancer that had already spread. He worked for as long as he was physically able. Eventually, the cancer treatments left him too weak and often sick and he was forced to give up the job he loved.
Unfortunately, traditional treatment did not stop cancer from spreading further. Richard has just endured a long and invasive surgery and we are awaiting the results. We are hopeful that Richard will be able to maintain a high quality of life, post-operation. Whatever the results, Richard is going to need financial help to continue with his care. We are reaching out to family and extended friends who may know and love Richard as we do and also to any kind person who might simply want to help a complete stranger who also happens to be a good person in need. Please consider donating to Richard's recovery fund. Thank you!
