Hello everyone. I am Cooper's mom, Timi. As most of you know Cooper has been through a lot over the past 4 years with his diagnosis of Leukemia. He has been in remission for 10 months now and has been doing great. But as time passes we see the effects of 3 and 1/2 years of chemo to his body, ankle and foot damage, obesity, and emotional distress. The last one his biggest hurdle. It takes a toll on a person when the fear of relapse looms in the back of the mind.
We were recently blessed with an awesome opportunity to go on a healing pilgrimage to Lourdes France from the generous Knights of Malta. They fundraise all year to take 50 people with life threatening or terminal illnesses to Loudes for a chance in a lifetime for healing. This trip costs $3,600.00, and is specially planned with volunteers from all over the country to facilitate the needs of the pilgrims. Cooper's trip has been paid for by these wonderful folks, the only catch is I need to pay for my way over.
We find ourselves in a tough spot. The trip means so much to him and us that it seems wrong not to go but, with 4 years of treatment at Stanford we our still treading water to keep our bills paid. The first year of treatment came in around 1 million dollars! Thank God for insurance! But even with coverage ,many tests, ambulance rides, hospital stays and office visits weren't covered.
So you can see our dilemma. We only just found out last week that Cooper was chosen as a recipient of this honor, and then this Friday realized I needed to come up with funds to go too!
It would mean so much if we could make this happen for Cooper. We have been hesitant to fund raise in the past for our expenses and only felt it was appropriate to raise funds for research. And we have been amazed at how generous everyone has been in the past. I think you all have given close to $24,000 for research for a cure for blood cancer!
So in closing, I am hoping that if you had intentions to donate this year to a cause that you might consider ours.
May God bless you richly,
Timi Bonessa
