On the 10/11/13 I had the best day of my life: I married my beautiful Emma and we are so happy. The next day we had terrible news:
As you know, a massive Typhoon hit the Philippines and left many people without anything at all. IN Australia we are very lucky and disasters like this are fairly well funded by the government and insurance companies. Relief is just not getting to the Philippines.
Emma's home town of Palompon is one of the worst hit with something like 95% damage to the town. They have water, but food is scarce. The have hardly any shelter. They will not get the electricity on for up to a year. The cell phone towers are gone. Everything is just gone. Its heartbreaking as I know these people and these places and to see them gone is difficult. Her sister's roof is gone.
In 3 weeks Emma and I will be travelling to the worst hit area and helping her family and those around her as much as we can. This was to be our 9 week honeymoon. We know that our family and friends wont mind when we say that we will be using all of our wedding money to help as much as we can for our family and friends in the area.
Our friends have all asked how they can help. We can use food and shelter but its hard to get them transported there. What we need is ideas. If we can get anything together to send we will also need transport and that's fairly difficult. We will be heading for Cebu, a 5 hour boat ride from Palompon, and purchasing as much as we can for distribution to the people of Palompon and San Miguel.
If you can help with $5 or $10 that would be amazing. All of the money will go towards supplies. We already have all of our tickets etc. None of this is going to us at all. We will use the ferry boats to transport supplies from Cebu to Palompon as many times as we can
